Division 4 District Change Implications

Updated: Nov 7

This article is to show the new individual district assignments and their implications. For the purpose of this preview, we highlighted kids that were at least regional qualifiers a season ago.

RQ - Regional Qualifier

SQ - State Qualifier

SP - State Placer

District 4-25 (Manistique)

Bark River-Harris

Charlevoix

Gwinn

Indian River Inland Lakes

Iron Mountain

Ishpeming

Manistique

Munising

Newberry

Norway

Onaway

Powers North Central

Rogers City

Rudyard

St. Ignace

Added: Ishpeming

Dropped:  Forest Area

Implications:  Not much.  Forest Lake had a regional qualifier last year, but he was a senior.  Ishpeming didn't appear to enter anyone in the post season.

District 4-26 (Manton)

Alcona

Atlanta

Benzie Central

Fife Lake Forest Area

Frankfort

Houghton Lake

Johannesburg-Lewiston

Mancelona

Mancelona North Central Academy

Manton

Maple City Glen Lake

Mio

Oscoda

Roscommon

St. Helen Charleton Heston Academy

Whittemore-Prescott

Added: Forest Area, Whittemore-Prescott, Johannesburg-Lewiston

Forest Area: None

Whitemore-Prescott:

SQ: 106 -  #8 Jayden Goupil, So.

RQ: 215 - Brian Schliep, Jr.

Johannesburg-Lewiston: New Team

Dropped:  McBain, Traverse City St. Francis

McBain:

SQ: 215 -  #8 Wyatt Zuiderveen, Sr.

RQ: 215 - Wesley Nelson, Jr.

Traverse City St. Francis:

RQ: 113 - Charlie Bertram So.

SQ: 120 - Luke Harper, Sr.

Implications:

Overall this district got easier losing four qualifiers and gaining two.  Overall, it is not a huge disparity.

4-27 (Holton)

Beaverton

Blanchard Montabella

Breckenridge

Carson City-Crystal

Coleman

Evart

Farwell

Fulton

Hesperia

Holton

Ithaca

Lakeview

Leroy Pine River

McBain

Merrill

St. Louis

Added:  Hemlock, McBain, Merrill, Carson City-Crystal

Hemlock: None

McBain:

SQ: 215 -  #8 Wyatt Zuiderveen, Sr.

RQ: 215 - Wesley Nelson, Jr.

Merrill: New Team

Carson City-Crystal: None

Dropped: Muskegon Catholic, North Muskegon, Ravenna

Muskegon Catholic: None

North Muskegon:

SP: 175 - #3 Hunter Wilder, Sr. - 8th in state

Ravenna:

RQ: 285 - #8 Mason Carringer, So.

Implications:  There was a fair amount of change in this district.  It added a 215 pound stud in Zuiderveen (McBain) and Carson City-Crystal always has some good wrestlers.  On the other hand, Wilder (North Muskegon) and Carringer (Ravenna) moved out, so some district 175 and 285 pounders are breathing a little easier after seeing these assignments.

District 4-28 (New Lothrop)

Akron-Fairgrove

Bad Axe

Brown City

Burton Bendle

Cass City

Flint Michigan School for the Deaf

Hemlock

Marlette

Mayville

New Lothrop

Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary

Saginaw Valley Lutheran

Sandusky

St. Charles

Ubly

Vassar

Added: Hemlock, Brown City

Hemlock: None

Brown City:

SP: 113 - #4 Aedyn Pasco, Jr. -  6th in state a season ago

Dropped: Elkton Pigeon Bayport, LakeVille

Elkton Pigeon Bayport: None

LakeVille:

SQ: 132 - Adam Hoch, Jr.

SP: 144 - Andrew Tucker, Jr. - 7th in state

RQ: 150 - George Gavan - Jr.

SP: 157 - Gavin Bodnar, Sr. - 8th in state

SQ: 165 - Randy Loewen, Sr.

SP: 215 - Jake Hascall, Sr. - 6th in state

Implications:  The biggest change yet.  LakeVille moving up to D3 makes this whole district breathe a sigh of relief.  They rolled through it last year.  The 113 pounders might not be super happy picking up a stud in Pasco.

District 4-29 (Host needed)

Addison

Bath

Byron

Concord

Dansville

East Jackson

Hanover-Horton

Hudson

Jackson Lumen Christi

Morenci

Perry

Pittsford

Sand Creek

Springport

Vandercook Lake

Webberville

Added:  Camden Frontier, Morenci, Springport

Morenci:  None

Springport:

SP: 106 -  #4 Mason Thurber, So. - 3rd in state

RQ: 106 - #14 Brody Birchfield, So.

SQ: 113 - #10 Shamus O’Hearon, So.

RQ: 120 - #12 Owen Thomas, Sr.

D3 State Champ and #1 138 Wyatt Burns

SQ: 150 - #3 Kaden Sizemore, Sr.

Dropped:  Concord, Jonesville, Leslie

Concord:

RQ: 132 - #14 Nate Fritz, Sr.

Jonesville:

RQ: 106 - #16 Blake Ryan, Jr.

Leslie:

SQ: 106 - Reese Parkinson, So.

RQ: 126 - Carter Franklin, So.

SP: 138 - Carter Foster, Jr. - 8th place

SP: 150 - Greyson Weber, Sr. - 4th place

RQ: 157 - Hayden Barron, Jr.

RQ: 165 - Ashton Young, Jr.

RQ: 175 - Troy Caulk, So.

Camden-Frontier: None

Implications:  Essentially this district traded Leslie for Springport.  However, Jonesville has a tough team traditionally also.  Even though this district picked up five solid kids along with a D3 state champ from Springport, I don’t think it is quite as tough as last year.

District 4-30 (Clinton)

Capac

Clarkston Everest Collegiate

Clinton

Detroit Cristo Rey

Lutheran Westland

Madison Heights Bishop Foley

Manchester

Memphis

Monroe St Mary Catholic Central

Mount Clemens

New Haven

Riverview Gabriel Richard

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

Royal Oak Shrine Catholic

Whitmore Lake

Added:

Dropped:  Blissfield, Brown City

Brown City:

SP: 113 - #4 Aedyn Pasco, Jr. -  6th in state a season ago

Blissfield:

SP: 113 - Jude Rosas, Sr. - 4th in state

SP: 132 - Gage Rothman, Jr. - 3rd in state

SP: 138 - Remy Yankekoff, So. - 4th in state

Implications: This district gets easier with four high state placers moving out.  The 113’s in the district are particularly happy losing the 3rd and 4th place state finishers from last season.  However, the defending D3 state champion at 157 Jeremy Amrhein is now wrestling for Manchester and it looks like he will be in the upper weights which will be very impactful in this district.

District 31-4 (Union City)

Added: Camden-Frontier, Centreville, Climax-Scotts, Jonesville, Schoolcraft, White Pigeon

Camden-Frontier:  None

Centreville:

SP 126 - #6 Rockne Hamilton, Sr. - 8th in state

Jonesville:

RQ 106 - #16 Blake Ryan, Jr.

Schoolcraft: None

White Pigeon:

RQ: 113 - #12 David Lane, Sr.

SP: 138 - #2 Hunter Pant, Sr. - 6th in state

RQ: 144 - #7 Maddix Jancasz, Jr.

SQ: 150 - #7 Jessie Fielis, Sr.

Dropped:  Bronson, Carson City Crystal, Concord, Fulton, Saranac

Bronson:

RQ: 113 - Brayton Cosby, Jr.

RQ: 138 - Wyatt Weinberg, Jr.

SP: 157 - Gabe Erwin, Sr. - 7th in state

SP: 165 - Layne Knisely - 3rd in state

SP: 215 - Conner Harvey - 5th in state

SQ: 285 - Sam Tappenden

Carson City Crystal: None

Concord:

RQ: 132 - #14 Nate Fritz, Sr.

Fulton:

RQ: 120 - #11 Lincoln Beltnick, Sr.

RQ: 126 - Rush Marsden, Jr.

RQ: 132 -  #11 Roman Patmon, Jr.

Saranac:

RQ: 132 - Aiden Bussell, Jr.

SQ:  138 - #5 Gabriel Webb, So.

RQ: 157 - Jacob Bollone, Jr.

Implications:  One of the big questions for us is which kids will end up at Martin and which at Climax.  Actually it ended up being kind of balanced.  I figured with Bronson moving out, this district would get a lot weaker.  However, picking up White Pigeon almost helped balance it out.  It is overall weaker than last year.

District 32-4 (Bangor)

Added: Coloma, Muskegon Catholic Central, North Muskegon, Ravenna, Saranac

Coloma:

SP: 106 - #2 Brody Ashley, So. - 3rd in state D3

SQ: 190 - Joe Clayton, Jr.

Muskegon Catholic: None

North Muskegon:

SP: 175 -  #3 Hunter Wilder, Sr. - 8th in state

Ravenna:

RQ: 285 -  #8 Mason Carringer, So.

Saranac:

RQ: 132 - Aiden Bussell, Jr.

SQ: 138 - #5 Gabriel Webb, So.

RQ: 157 - Jacob Bollone, Jr.

Dropped:  Delton Kellogg, Schoolcraft, River Valley, White Pigeon

Delton Kellogg:

SQ: 120 - Evan Stampfler, So.

RQ: 150 - Mendon Phillips, Jr.

RQ: 190 - Mason Ferris, So.

SP: 285 - Mitchell Swift, Sr. - 3rd in state

River Valley:

Schoolcraft: None

White Pigeon:

RQ: 113 - #12 David Lane, Sr.

SP: 138 - #2 Hunter Pant, Sr. - 6th in state

RQ: 144 - #7 Maddix Jancasz, Jr.

SQ: 150 - #7 Jessie Fielis, Sr.

Implications:  The gains and losses were somewhat even.  Two really solid teams in Delton and White Pigeon left this district, but it also picked up some studs from various teams.  Ashley, Wilder, Carrager, and Webb all are highly ranked kids joining the district.  It should be fun!
