Girls 100

Jahnavi Marion burst upon the scene last year as a freshman, winning one huge match after another.  She finished 34-3 with a 7th place finish at Ford Field.  She dominated the GFC winning both the 100 HS Elite and the 100 HS Varsity weight classes.  Mckenzie Mantei also had an outstanding performance with 3rd place finishes in both the Varsity and Elite Brackets.  Team Michigan dominated the 100 weight:

  1. Jahnavi Marion (Kalamazoo Central)

  2. Evenlyn Rennie (Trenton)

  3. Mckenzie Mantei (Dundee)

  7.  Ava Hall (Grass Lake)

8.  Alainnah Mosher (Mason)

Michigan had two girls place in HS Varsity with Tatianno Castillo (Lowell) in third place and Onalee Taylor (Union City) in 5th place.

Tatiana Castillo earned double All-American status by placing 4th in the HS  Elite division at 110, while high school teammate Lana Sheehan was 5th.  However, it was newcomer Harper Kalo of Midland who took the tournament by storm, winning in impressive fashion!

114 - Irulan Hrydziuszko of Birmingham Groves took 7th place by winning 5 matches in the HS Varsity bracket.  Gull Lake standout Sailor Diehl also competed hard and went 1-2 on the day.

120 - Girls HS Elite had Michigan wrestlers as both finalists at 120 division.  Celine Frank of Oxford was the big winner with runner up going to Aubry Bowman of Davison.  Congrats to both wrestlers!  Hailey Malloy was a very impressive 4th place.  Zoe Zondervan and Emmaline Kouw (Zeeland West) also competed in the bracket.

121 - Girls HS Varsity - Aubrey Bowman defeated Frank in the bracket on the way to a runner up finish in this bracket to achieve double All-American Status.  Frank finished fifth and Emmaline Kouw finished 7th and Hailey Malloy (Olivet) 8th, to round out Michigan placers.  Malloy also finished a very impressive 4th in HS Elite as an 8th grader!

128 Fresh off a state championship where she pulled a massive upset, Kassie Sapp journeyed to OH and promptly won the 128 Girls Varsity Weight Class in dominant fashion.  Only one wrestler made it past the first period with her and that was Emma Mantei of Dundee.  Mantei only lost 3-0 to Sapp and won all other matches by first period fall to capture 3rd place.  Also placing in this bracket was Kaden Tinkey (Leslie) 6th, Emma Kosza (Hartland) 7th, and Stella Straub (Novi) 8th.  Cassandra Frank (Oxford), Abbie VerHoeven (Hamilton), Adrianna Murray (Yale), and Korrayah Kapenga also competed in this bracket.

As impressive as this bracket was, the 125 Girls HS Elite saw Mantei win a dramatic 7-6 victory over Sapp in the finals.  This could be a preview of more great matches between these two this winter back home in Michigan. Koscza took 6th place in this bracket to also win Double All-American Honors.
