For those that didn’t already know it, Lillee Denson is going to be a major force in wrestling in 2025/2026 in the mitten state.
Mattie Mckart had a very strong debut to her high school career with a 6th place finish. The Dundee freshman finished 3rd last spring at Myway States and is looking to be one the next great Viking wrestlers.

Team Michigan won its third straight HS girls championship at 114 with Celine Frank of Oxford taking home the gold. She won by fall in her first 2 matches over Florida opponents before pinning 5th place finisher Tierney of Kentucky in 5:25. Celine is coming off of a freshman season where she was a state qualifier and it appears she has taken a massive jump forward. We look for very big things from Celine this year.
Irulan Hrydziuszko, a returning state qualifying sophomore from Birmingham Groves, competed very well at GFC, just a 6-4 decision short of placing.
Rylee Nidiffer of Belleville, who placed 4th at Myway States also competed at GFC as she looks to break upon the high school scene.

The Great Lakes State continues its dominant run at GFC with its 4th straight champion in Cheyenne Frank of Oxford. Fresh off of a state championship this spring at Ford Field, Cheyenne looks even more dominant with 2 falls and 2 pins to take home the gold. She teched Valarie McAnelly 18-3 in the finals. Her closest match was a 5:41 fall over fellow Michigander Emma Mantei.
Spoiler alert: Cheyenne also pinned and teched her way to the Elite title!!
Emma Mantei finished 4th as a freshman at the MHSAA championships and looks to climb higher on the podium this year with an outstanding 3rd place finish. She recorded a 14 second fall and a 46 second fall before falling late to stud Cheynne Frank. She then won by MD and then pinned Demetria Griffin of Illinois also in the first period for the bronze. Excellent job Emma!
Standout Aryanna Hengstebeck of Holt also did the extra training and made the trip to Sandusky. She did well but fell short of a medal.
Junior Emmaline Kouw of Zeeland West was one win short of placing at Ford Field and was also one win short of placing at GFC. Even though those are outstanding accomplishments, look for continued improvement from Emmaline in the coming year.
Valon Riedel of Hillsdale was the other Michigan wrestler competing at this weight class.
