The Individual Districts were recently released.  This is a list of the new districts with teams added and dropped, as well as any returning regional or state qualifiers.  Rankings are Michigan Prep’s Preseason Top 18.  No freshmen are included in the rankings yet.

#5 (285) Brayden Blackstock SQ

Implications:  This district is easier with Lake Orion moving out with their four ranked wrestlers.  Fegley coming in, though, will make one weight class tougher.

Implications:  165 and 285 got easier as two ranked hammers for each moved out of this district.  Overall, it is about a wash.  Carlson coming in brings some talented kids.

Warren Mott

215 - Payton Howard - RQ

285 - Robert Deal - RQ

Implications:   Wow!  A lot to unpack here with eight teams leaving and eight teams coming in.  On first glance District 1-7 is now a lot tougher than it was than last year to advance from.  There are 29 wrestlers coming in that are either ranked or were at least regional qualifiers from a season ago, while 14 are coming in.  Weight class wise the ones with more than one wrestler margin are 126, with three in and one out.  138 with two in.  144 with three in and one out.  150 with three in and one out.  157 with three in.  And 165 with two in.  Teams such as Romeo, Rochester Adams, Troy Athens, and Lake Orion joining definitely beef up this district.

Implications:  Last year 7-1 and 8-1 were talked about as the two weakest districts in the division.  The first inclination is that this district became even more wide open and easier to make it out of.  There are not a ton of state powers in this district.  This will likely be the district that is talked about as the best opportunity to make it out.  Ten teams in and eleven teams out make this district a lot different than last season.  Sixteen wrestlers join that are either ranked or were a regional qualifier at minimum last year.  Twenty eight wrestlers that hold the same distinction are no longer in this district.  Some of the biggest discrepancies are 126, with one wrestler in and four leaving.  I imagine there are some happy 126 pounders in 8-1.  138 had two leave.  144 brought in one and lost three.  157 had three leave.  285 is actually harder in 8-1 with two come in and nobody coming out.
