Michigan Red Girls sent a Junior Freestyle team down to the Grand Park Events Center in Westfield, IN and ended up winning the national championship! First, they won Pool B in dominant fashion, defeated Utah 56-18, Idaho 49-22, and finally California 47-31. California had won their previous matches by more than 30 points. In the next round, Michigan Red edged Colorado 41-35, walloped Illinois 52-23, and cruised by Wisconsin 46-29. This put them in the championship match against Ohio Gray where they won by the score of 47-27 to become national champs! Way to go Michigan Girls!! (And to beat a team from Ohio makes it even better). Team Michigan Blue also deserves some special recognition, going 4-5 in the national wrestling competition. Between the 2 teams, Michigan girls went 11-5 on the weekend, making a huge statement about the outstanding quality of girls wrestling in Michigan. Congrats to all!
