D1 Week 9 Team Rankings

D1 Week 9 Prep Top 12 Team Rankings

(Previous ranking in parenthesis)

1. Detroit Catholic Central (1)  - Beat D2 #1 Lowell 48-17.  Took 2nd at the Grizzly Invitational in Ohio behind Perrysburg.  Finalists for the Shamrocks were Gavin Boller (106) 2nd, Wyatt Lees (132) 2nd, Grayson Fuchs (150) 1st, Braxton Roche (175) 2nd, Caden Krueger (190) 2nd.

DCC is always strong, they just seem stronger than normal this year.  They had some great matches with Lowell, but came out on top in most of them.  It doesn’t look like they will be touched this post-season as they aim for yet another title.

2. Brighton (2) - Beat Northville 62-14, beat Novi 63-14.  Lost to D3 #1 Dundee 47-15, beat Woodhaven 70-11, beat Saline 71-5, beat D2 #2 Three Rivers 46-24, beat Wauseon (OH) 52-19.

Solid week overall, the margin of loss to Dundee surprised me a bit.  However, they did bounce back with a really nice win over a very good Three Rivers team.  The Bulldogs and Eagles are very close, as usual, in these rankings.

3. Hartland (3) - Beat Caro 60-21, beat D2 #12 Fenton 46-27, lost to D2 #8 New Boston Huron 42-27, beat Sterling Heights Stevenson 78-6, beat Warren De La Salle 54-22, beat Northville 73-5, beat Novi 79-0.

Hartland sent a mixed squad to Fenton and performed well.  They have a case to be #2, but stay here for now.

4. Grand Ledge (4) - Beat Charlotte 55-20, beat Lansing Everett 59-23.  Won the McGinnis-Evans Invitational over Westland John Glenn and Grandville.

Finalists for the Comets were Tucker Harkins (126) 2nd, Eben Abdo (138) 1st,  Maddoc Taszreak (150) 1st, Jack Bull (165) 1st, and Ashton Delaney (190) 2nd.

It was another good showing for the Comets as they had impressive performances up and down the lineup.  They won despite being without their #1 285.

5. Clarkston (5) - Beat #11 Oxford 40-22, beat Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 64-11.

They had a really solid win over a good Oxford team this week.

6. Rockford (6) - Beat #9 Grandville 42-24.

Nice win in the OK Red showdown with Grandville.

7. Westland John Glenn (7) - Beat Dearborn Fordson 66-12, beat Dearborn 47-21.  Finished second at the McGinnis-Evans Invitational.

It was a good week for the Rockets.  They finished just behind #4 Grand Ledge and just ahead of #9 Grandville at a very competitive McGinnis-Evans Invite.  Finalists for the Rockets were Landon O’Conners (106) 2nd, Nakayla Dawson (113) 1st, Kyrin Dawson (120) 1st, Logan O’Conners (144) 1st, and Franklin Hernandez (157) 2nd.

8. Temperance Bedford (8) - Not in action

9. Davison (10) - Beat Lapeer 59-18, beat Saginaw United 68-12.

Easy week for the Cardinals as they rolled through two SVL squads.  Moving them up a spot, though, due to the return of Tobias Pacheco to their lineup.

10. Grandville (9) - Lost to #6 Rockford 42-24.  Finished third at the McGinnis-Evans Invitational behind #4 Grand Ledge and #7 John Glenn.

Solid week for the Bulldogs, but they couldn’t complete the upset in the battle with Rockford.  They finished just behind Grand Ledge and John Glenn on Saturday.  Finalists for the Bulldogs were Grayson VanValkenburg (106) 1st, Lucas Huitron (120) 2nd and Tristen Dood (157) 1st.

11. Oxford (11) - Beat Bloomfield Hills 76-6, lost to #5 Clarkston 40-22.

12. Howell (NR) - Beat Canton 69-9, beat Plymouth 68-8, beat D2 #12 Fenton 46-27, beat D4 #5 Riverview Richard 50-24, beat Richmond 59-18, beat Waterford Kettering 63-12, lost to D2 #8 New Boston Huron 64-18.

Howell joins the rankings after putting together an impressive season to date.  They have beaten quite a few ranked teams.  This week add Fenton and Riverview Richard to that list.
