GFC Girls 130 and Up
130 - Girls HS Elite - Michigan Girls had the impressive distinction of having every wrestler entered make the podium, led by Haley Stenz (Alpena) who placed 3rd. Alia Curtiss (Shepherd) was 5th, Kaden Tinkey (Leslie) 7th, and Cassandra Frank (Oxford) 8th. Congrats to this group on All-American Honors!
135 - Girls HS Varsity - Sophia Vega was Michigan’s highest placer at 5th while Hailey Braden (Glen Lake) finished 8th. Megan Brower (Grand Haven) also competed well, losing only to the champion and 6th place wrestler.
140 - HS Elite - Janelle Gundrum (Holt) was the only entry from Michigan, and she represented the Mitten state in fantastic fashion, going 3-1 and earning a runner up finish. Gundrum was a double All American as she also finished 7th in the HS varsity competition at 145, by winning 3 matches.
155 - Girls HS Varsity - Team Michigan and quite a few entries in this weight class, led by a 3rd place finish by Rylie Egan of Mason. Makenzie Parker (Milan) was 4th and Eden Dean (Macomb, MI) was 5th. Victoria Jacobs of Michigan Revolution also competed well.
155 - Girls HS Elite - A lot of these same girls competed here with Egan (Mason) placing an impressive third once again! Makenzie Parker was 6th and Eden Dean was 7th, earning all of these girls double All American status. Victoria Jacobs placed 8th here which got her named All American as well.
170 - HS Varsity - Presleigh Casselman (Constantine) took the silver medal while Aaliyah Langell (Big Rapids) won the bronze medal. In the Elite bracket, Casselman placed third and Langell 4th which qualifies both of these outstanding wrestlers as double All Americans.
190 - We need to talk about Lyla Hensen. Wow! Just a freshman, she rolled to titles at the GFC in both HS Varsity and HS Elite. She won by first period fall of TF in every match. The Hudson Tiger has multiple national and world titles, including Tulsa, Fargo, and now the GFC. Lyla will be an immediate contender for the state title despite a multitude of returning standouts in the upper weights. Karma Gibson of Milan had a great tournament as well, taking a strong 3rd place in Girls HS varsity.
235 - A’Zaria Lane (Dundee) picked up right where she left off after an impressive first HS wrestling season with a championship in the HS Elite division. Ryleigh Lopez (Milan) also won All-American status by placing second place in the HS varsity division.
Congrats to all of these fantastic wrestlers who competed so well at the GFC. Michigan is extremely strong in girls wrestling and it showed again last weekend. We can’t wait to see how it all shakes out this winter as there are so many outstanding returning wrestlers.
